My 3 Favourite Spring 2013 Anime

Well, since I wrote this last year, I figured I would make one for this year as well. (Although looking back at it, I almost can't believe I actually wrote that. How young I was back then~)

Warning : This post contain spoilers

3. Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Comedy wa Machigatteiru

So, what does Azalea have to do with all this?

Actually it's 'Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Come wa Machigatteiru', but since nobody would understand what the heck is 'Love Come', I tweaked the title a little bit. And if by any chance you don't understand what kind of entity 'Love Comedy' is, it means 'Romance Comedy'. Which is why the official translation of the title is 'My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU'. I quite like the official translation by the way (even though I have no idea what is 'SNAFU' before this show aired). But for the sake of simplifying this post, I'll just abbreviate it as 'Yahari' (although there is no word that explicitly reflects 'Yahari' in the official translation).

Enough ramblings about the title.

The story is about Hikigaya Hachiman, your seemingly-average lonely highschooler from outside. However, unlike most protagonists, he is not an idiot (example of idiot protagonist: Kamijou Touma). Hachiman's mind is bright and enlightened, which caused him to be the only sane person in an insane world that labels him as 'cynical'. Even so, his lonely life was supposed to be peaceful in the three years of highschool.

But everything changed when the fire nation unmarried teacher attacked.

The sad unmarried teacher, Hiratsuka Shizuka, coerced him to join the so-called 'Service Club' out of some misguided love. And that's where he met the icy heroine, Yukinoshita Yukino, whose worldview is world different than his. Thus, his new life of solving other's problem and getting into some peculiar situation began.

Needless to say, the main feature of Yahari is the recurring name for its characters (Yuigahama Yui, Hayama Hayato, Kawasaki Saki, etc). Yahari however, also actually teach us many valuable life lessons that you won't learn in any other anime! In other words, 'great' is not even nearly enough to describe the greatness of Yahari!

And fortunately, the visuals is decent enough to complement the story. It was a bit strange at first with all those exotic eyes of Hachiman, but I'm pretty sure anybody will get used to it in no time.

Talking about the sounds and music, the OP is absolutely nice while Yukino's voice by Hayami Saori is very melodious (and don't forget the ever-so-enchanting voice of Komachi by Yuuki Aoi). Those alone covered any major flaw Yahari has in the music department.

tl;dr : Anyone should watch Yahari for some valuable life lessons!

And don't forget about one of the most fearful Hideyoshi in existence....

2. Shingeki no Kyojin

I call it 'The Great OP'

"Incarnation of awesomeness. 'Nuff said."

....Is what I wanted to say. But considering the world is full of ignorant people who don't even know how amazing Shingeki no Kyojin (or 'Attack on Titan' or 'Attack of the Giants' or 'The Eotena Onslaught') is, I'll elaborate this post just for them.

Shingeki no Kyojin (SnK) is basically a tale about kyojin (or 'titan' or 'giant' or 'eotena'). They're big (obviously!). And they don't need to eat and they can regenerate to heal their wounds instantly and they don't wear clothes. The only barrier for one to start wanting to become kyojin is that they don't reproduce.... (which is completely shattering the point of living in the first place....)

But even so, the kyojins' life is supposed to be peaceful and harmonious. Until some of their favourite snack-toys, usually called human, built a huge wall in order to strip the kyojin of their only enjoyment. Even worse, those snack-toys actually initiated an army to destroy the serene life of the kyojins. Just how evil can they get!?

....................

Speaking of which, the OP is undoubtedly stunning while the visual quality is definitely top-notch (I don't really fond of the ED for some reason). The pacing is just right and the BGM is simply outright terrific. Making the watching experience an exceptional experience even amongst any other unforgettable watching experience in your life. To be honest, SnK even managed to make me tear up even though I already have read the manga (thus effectively knowing what's coming next).

One more fabulous thing about this tale, is that when one finish consuming it to the last bit and then start to consume it again from the beginning, one will once again realize just how superb the story actually is.

Incarnation of awesomeness. 'Nuff said.

tl;dr : Anyone should watch SnK for some sheer epicness!

Half of the awesomeness is from this particular 'snack-toy'

1. Kakumeiki Valvrave

Shouko: Spout some nonsense and then get the majority votes. She's a talented politician for sure.

"A complete trainwreck!"

"Reification of nonsense."

"Best comedy of the year!"

"Combining Gundam Unicorn, Macross, Power Ranger, Kokoro Connect, and Twilight splendidly."

"Never fail to amuse the viewers."

"Truly takes anime trolling to a whole new level!"

etc etc.

Such is the praises for the glorious tale of Kakumeiki Valvrave (often called 'Valvrave' for short). Contrary to its appearance at the first glance, Valvrave is actually one of those shows that you can watch everywhere even when you accidentally left your left brain at home. Certainly, place-availability is always a big plus for any anime, and Sunrise had done a very well-done job on this aspect.

And yet, even with its near unbeatable place-availability, there are no lack in the story department, as unlike my other two favourites, I can't even begin to describe the deep and complex grand tale that is Valvrave. It can be even said that all synopsis about what Valvrave is are actually an insult to the story, considering none of them is doing it justice.

....................

....................

....................

To complete its absurdly extraordinary story, Valvrave also has cool mechas and Gundam Seed-esque OP, coupled with highest-tier VAs to voice its characters. Now, what else can you ask?

tl;dr : Anyone should watch Valvrave for some refreshing moments!

And I thought Saki is sane....
